Child Inc is the Head Start and Early Head Start program for Travis County, serving children from six weeks to age five and their families. HelloSubs places substitute lead teachers and assistant teachers in Child Inc classrooms, so the children's day keeps running when a teacher is out.
Apply once with HelloSubs, pick the days that fit your week, and get paid every Friday.
Child Inc runs Head Start and Early Head Start classrooms at its own child development centers in Austin and Pflugerville, and inside elementary schools in Austin, Del Valle, Manor, and Pflugerville ISDs. Centers are open from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, so shifts are daytime only.
Requirements
You must be eligible to work in the U.S. and complete background screening. Head Start classrooms also follow federal staff qualification rules, which you document during onboarding:
- Lead (preschool teacher) shifts: a completed degree that meets Head Start teacher qualifications.
- Assistant teacher shifts: a Head Start assistant teacher qualification.
- Texas childcare onboarding: complete the required Texas training hours and keep pediatric CPR/First Aid current.
How HelloSubs works: Substitute assignments at Child Inc are available on an ongoing basis. You choose the days you want to work in its Head Start and Early Head Start classrooms and get paid weekly: $22/hour for assistant shifts and $24/hour for lead shifts. Most shifts are 7 to 8 paid hours, about $154–$192 a day. Apply once and start picking up assignments in minutes. Looking for more early-childhood work? See daycare and childcare jobs in Austin.
Why Child Inc?
Child Inc has served Travis County families since 1972, and more than 50,000 children and families have grown with the program. It takes a whole-child approach that includes children with disabilities, learning delays, and mental health needs. The program is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and is a Texas Rising Star program, the state's quality rating for childcare that goes beyond minimum licensing standards.
